If you over-indulged this festive season, there are plenty of ways to nourish your body and get your new year off to a healthy start while you're still on holiday..
Whether you've gobbled up a few too many mince pies or knocked back one too many tropical cocktails this holiday season; there’s no time like the present to start a health kick.
While on a villa holiday in Thailand, the options are plentiful to ease yourself onto a healthy path for 2015. Whether that means loading up on healthy shakes, exercising more or meditating on yout New Year’s resolutions
Below are a few ideas on how to get your healthy year off to a flying start.
If you celebrate the New Year in style on Phuket or Koh Samui, it’s likely that you might be feeling a little worn out the following morning after all the excitement. With so many luxurious spas scattered across the islands, a New Year's Day refresh and detox is easy with a swim, steam and sauna. If you are staying in a private villa, you might even be lucky enough to have your own private spa facilities on site and can simply ask the manager to call in a masseuse. An invigorating way to bounce back is with a Thai massage followed by a power shower.
An aromatherapy massage is another way to perk up all of your senses, which is great if you are feeling a little groggy following a few days of over-indulgence. Peppermint and eucalyptus oil are wonderful aromas to refresh tired senses back to life, and will leave your skin smelling wonderful and feeling as soft as can be. A good massage will also even out any kinks and complaints in your body, so you can start the New Year feeling fresh and ready for anything.
For many people, the start of a new year is the perfect time to assess and make resolutions for the year ahead. Peaceful islands like Samui and Phuket offer a suitably tranquil setting for you to focus on what matters most to you in the coming year. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of the waves lapping on the shore means the beach a great place to meditate on your resolutions – particularly if you are staying in one of the islands’ beachside villas. If you have trouble focusing on your meditation, book yourself into a meditation class at one of the local health and wellness retreats to learn some of the techniques.
Breathe the Breeze
Start the year as you mean to go on by channeling your active side into some exercise while you are on holiday. If your private villa has it’s own pool, why not do some extra laps before breakfast to get your energy flowing for the rest of the day? A bracing walk on the beach can also work wonders for clearing the mind, as well as getting your heart pumping. Alternatively, you could try a little bit of yoga to re-connect with your body, either on the beach or pool deck, or even in a “sala” overlooking the sea.
Food is an important part of any healthy lifestyle. If you are feeling a little worse for wear after a party, start the next day with a glass of coconut juice – or better still, drink the water straight from a coconut. This will do wonders to re-hydrate your body. Fresh Thai food also incorporates many wonderful and nutrient-rich ingredients that your body will love. A spicy vegetable curry, for example, will blast away cobwebs, leaving you ready to face the day.
