Thailand is the perfect getaway destination for family vacations, and tropical islands like Koh Samui and Phuket now offer far more than ball games on the beach. New and exciting activities and pursuits for families abound for those looking to try something new during their stay. Whether you are travelling with tiny tots, toddlers or teenagers, Thailand is rich with unique activities to try out with your family whilst on holiday. From expansive, water parks to Thai boxing workshops, the range of choices is endless. In addition to the more traditional vacation activities, Thailand is fast becoming known for a range of new age attractions that offer a fantastic afternoon of fun for all the family. Whether it's escape-themed game rooms or sprawling labyrinths for a mega version of hide and seek; Thailand's top holiday islands offer visitors the chance to take family fun to a next level. Below is a selection of activities for adventurous families. Escape to Samui Escapology If you choose Koh Samui as a holiday destination you are already smarter than most. So while you are there why not take the opportunity to try out a novel new activity? Located close to Lamai Beach, Escapology is a real life escape game that sees teams of friends or family members locked inside a themed game which requires them to put their heads together to uncover clues and earn the right to freedom by solving the puzzle. Escapology is made even more exciting because players are limited to just one hour in which to solve the their mystery. You can choose the theme of the game, with themes that cover everything from the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s to Shanghai in the 1800s. Sherlock on Phuket escape-hunt-phuket Not unlike Samui’s Escapology, Phuket’s Escape Hunt Experience (located near Patong Beach) is another role play gaming experience for families where you and your family can put your problem solving skills to the test. When ‘escape the room’ computer games became popular online, they soon made the transition into real life – especially in places like Japan – but the trend soon spread worldwide. The Escape Hunt Experience is one such example, with players teaming up to play the part of a London-based detective investigating a murder that took place over 100 years ago. Once the game is over, enjoy a cup of tea in the lounge where you can dress up in Sherlock-esque costumes for photographs. Chamber of Secrets Mermaid of Songkhla If you can’t get enough of real life puzzle solving games, then head down to the Chamber of Secrets, another Phuket favourite located in Kathu. This is an escape room game with a difference, as it offers up the chance for you and your family to learn about Thai culture while you play. Each mystery is themed around Thai mythology, and Thailand’s rich cultural history is reflected in the exotic decorations and atmosphere of the setting. When you book your adventure in the Chamber of Secrets, there are several themes to choose form, including the Mermaid of Songkhla, King Naresuan’s Tomb and the Temple of Ganesha. Bouncing off the Ceiling Upside down house Perhaps Phuket’s quirkiest new family attraction, Baan Teelanka, which literally translates to ‘Upside Down House’ offers up a hilarious afternoon of family entertainment in a three storey house where literally everything (including the fish tank!) is upside down. This means you and your family will be crawling across the ceiling as you enjoy what is definitely a unique adventure. The eccentric property is also available to hire for kooky party celebrations and you can find Phuket’s one and only maze right outside. The expansive labyrinth offers up aditional fun for mums, dads and kids alike. Museum with a Difference Trickeye If you think your kids will be bored at the thought of a trip to the museum – think again. You can challenge their senses with an afternoon of optical illusions, all offered at Southern Thailand’s only TrickEye 3D Museum. The interactive museum provides a chance to stimulate your kids' imagination and creativity while on holiday through an eccentric collection of 3d pieces. Experiment with photographs and striking poses around the museum’s impressive display, and be prepared for plenty of giggles.
