When you are on holiday, there are few things better than taking the time to watch the world go by with a good cup of coffee. Here’s our pick of Phuket’s top coffee spots.
Whether you are in the mood for refreshing ice latte or a hot and frothy cappuccino, the generous sprinkling of cute coffee shops across Phuket leaves visitors spoilt for choice. Coffee breaks are a great way to break up an afternoon of shopping or sightseeing, and even a good place to relax if you just want to soak up the local atmosphere. Rather than heading to the same chain coffee shops that you would go to for your coffee and cake back home, why not try out one of the many quaint independent cafes that are dotted across the island?
Here's a list to set you on the coffee trail.
While Phuket is home to several ‘Bake’ patisseries, the bustling atmosphere of the Laguna branch makes a great place for people-watching whilst you enjoy coffee and a cake. Bake offers the delectable treats of a patisserie, chocolatier and vienoiseri all rolled into one. The Laguna branch serves up the widest range of yummy sugary goodies, which makes it the perfect place to take the kids. Whether you are after a creamy chocolate éclair with your cappuccino or nothing more than an iced green tea, Bake is always a top bet.
A Spoonful of Sugar
In the famous words of Mary Poppins, “Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down”. In the case of this delightful café, situated in Naiham, a scrumptious cake goes down very well with your creamy latte. Spoonful of Sugar is tremendously popular with locals and visitors alike – particularly those who have a sweet tooth. The café is set in a converted house in the cool shade of a yard, with fresh white décor and Thai – style ‘mon’ cushions on the floor for patrons to relax. All the food is prepared on site by the café’s charming owner.
If you are in search of a pleasant coffee shop or simple restaurant near Phuket Town, why not try out We Café? Situated on the Chaofa Road in between Phuket Town and Chalong Temple, this quaint café also doubles up as a great place to pick up all your fresh fruit and vegetables if you are planning on cooking an evening meal back at your private villa. A delicious range of salads, sandwiches, coffees and teas are also available, and if you are on a health kick you can indulge in one of the café’s delectable fresh fruit smoothies.
Coffee at the Cape
If you are planning on a day exploring Phuket’s stunning Cape Panwa, factor in a coffee break between gasping at the views. Part of Phuket Panwa Beachfront Resort and close to the main road, ‘Biscuit’ café is a standalone spot serving top class coffees and home made cakes from 10am to 7pm every day. Pop in to marvel at the mouth-watering array of sweets and cookies available, or even indulge in a gourmet sandwich if you are in the mood for something a little more substantial. Biscuit also offers coffee and cake to take away, so it’s a great stop-off point if you want to get back to exploring the Cape with some sweet goodies in hand.
Java in the Old Town
If you are exploring Phuket Old Town, stop off at Café y Té for your morning cappuccino. Look out for the cute archway terrace that leads to the interior of the café, which is finished in stylish décor that includes garden chairs, sofas and stools. The prices are appealing too. It’s possible to indulge in blueberry cheesecake, chocolate fudge cake or apple crumble for just THB80. This quaint little café has something of a Spanish vibe, down to the fact that it’s owner spent some time in Spain before heading out to Phuket. Situated on Phang Nga Road next to the clock tower, this delightful café is open every day from 10am to 10pm.
